What’s on in April at the Grade I listed Shaw House and West Berkshire Museum? Well, you have Easter family days, exhibitions, workshops and a new Spring Food and Craft Fair.
On the 1st April, West Berkshire Museum are holding a Family Discovery Day. You can explore what is on offer for families with a series of free medieval themed activities beginning from 11am. All activities are free.
There will also be family days at the museum as part of the Easter holidays on the 13th, 20th and 21st.
- Craft activities will include making and decorating a polystyrene egg (13th)
- Dress to Impress – Choose between making a fan, top hat or Elizabethan ruff (20th)
- Springtime Fun – Choose between making a mask, wooden flower and any of the crafts still available from the previous day (21st)
At Shaw House on the 12th, take part in an Easter Egg Hunt and make a Springtime rabbit or chick out of a polystyrene egg and other craft materials. Then, on the 19th the theme is cool coasters where you get to decorate a coaster using Deco pens.
Wild About Plants
Taking place on the 11th and 18th, this fun packed session with local charity Growing 2gether and the RENEWAL Project will teach you about the importance of planting wildflowers.
Spring Food & Craft Fair
The 2nd April will see the launch of a new Spring Food and Craft Fair. On the day, there will be artisan food, drink and locally produced crafts.
Although it began in March, the Artikinesis Springtime Art Exhibition at West Berkshire Museum, continues until the 23 April. The original artwork on display is from five local artists inspired by the region.
At the end of the month, two more exhibitions at the museum will start. Photographs and Jewellery (26th), a joint exhibition of stunning photographs and unique jewellery from Open Studios artists Simon Ball and Jo Arkell. Then, on the 29th Cover to Cover, a display of 30 sketchbooks each on a theme that have been exchanged amongst Open Studios artists.
Also on the 29th The Orangery Lawn at Shaw House will be transformed into a sculpture trail of artworks by local sculptors.
These exhibitions will continue to run through most of May.
