The Corn Exchange, Newbury are seeking volunteer participants for two of their upcoming outdoor events, Ring Out and BELONGING(s).
On Monday 29 May, the Corn Exchange and renowned sound artist Ray Lee will transform Newbury’s Market Place with a large scale sound art installation in Ring Out. Mounted on large industrial towers, giant cone-shaped speakers, activated by a group of bell-ringers, will gradually swing higher and higher until each arm soars up over the heads of the audience, creating sounds and melodies as they move.
The Corn Exchange are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join the Ring Out team as bell-ringers in the performances at 1pm, 4pm, 6pm and 9.30pm on Monday 29 May. The volunteers will trigger the industrial sized machinery, making the large pendulum arms of the towers swing and ring out to the surrounding audiences.
No previous bell-ringing experience is necessary, but volunteers must be aged 18 plus, relatively agile and available for all rehearsal and performance dates. To find out more information and to volunteer to be in Ring Out, please email email@example.com by 5pm on Wednesday 17 May.
Later in the year, on Saturday 17 June, the Corn Exchange and 101 Outdoor Arts Creation Space, Newbury and Tilted Productions will present a new site specific outdoor show, BELONGING(s) on Greenham Business Park.
Created by Tilted’s Maresa von Stockert, in collaboration with an intergenerational professional cast of eight performers, BELONGING(s) will combine contemporary dance and physical theatre and an integral use of objects and locality to turn familiar spaces into illusionary worlds.
The performances, which will start at 4pm and 7.30pm on Saturday 17 June, will unfold in several locations around 101, the Corn Exchange’s Outdoor Arts Creation Space. En route between the main scenes, audiences will encounter pop up performance vignettes and installations created with and performed by people from the local community.
The Corn Exchange are seeking local volunteer performers of mixed ages and backgrounds to work alongside Tilted’s professional cast and join this exciting project.
It is completely free to participate in this event. Participants of any age above 18 are welcome. No previous performance experience is required, just open mindedness, curiosity, enthusiasm and commitment.
To find out more information and volunteer to be in BELONGING(s) please email firstname.lastname@example.org by 5pm on Wednesday 10 May.
